This 4 + hour seminar/workshop will be taught by instructor Joe Nick, Joe Nick K-9 LLC. Handlers will complete a Level 1 certification in Scent Detection through Joe Nick K-9 Training. The first hour + of the seminar will be an instructional PowerPoint presentation and lecture. The second part will be a practical application working with your dog through search areas. All students will receive a certificate of completion as well as take-home materials.

The presentation will cover the following key concepts:
1. The anatomy and physiology of the canine olfactory system. 2. Identifying and comprehending the capabilities of a detection dog. 3. Understanding the dog’s competencies and limitations that will affect being able to detect target odor. 4. Identifying the dog’s behavioral changes during contact with the target odor. 5. Search Patterning 6. Problem Solving
Following the presentation and lecture, handlers will participate in a verity of scent detection searching drills and activities: Containers / Water / Buried / Vehicle (weather permitting)
